Cumberland Who's Who
Public Profile

The Cromwell family farming roots go back many generations on both sides of our families, here in Australia and in Canada. Today, with the help of our daughters, Aubrey, Morley, and Bella, we manage 40 acres in the Byron Bay Hinterland using regenerative practices with a focus on unique farm stays and pasture-raised, rare heritage breeds. Our family strives to bring joy and sustainability to regenerative farming.
Our working family farm in Goonengerry offers visitors many wholesome experiences including hand-picking your own produce, interacting with our farm animals, exploring the land and buildings and of course, overnight stays.
We also offer homely getaways in the Clarence Valley - in Wooli, Ulmarra and Glenugie. Head to our website to view all our accommodation options!

Distinguished and Famous people from Cumberland
🤝 Jack Lang
Jack Lang’s political career began at Auburn Council, where he was elected in 1907 and served as mayor from 1909 to 1911. An estate agent before entering state parliament, he went on to serve twice as premier of New South Wales. His governments introduced measures including widows’ pensions, child endowment and workers’ compensation, while his Depression-era leadership became intensely divisive. Auburn provides a direct local-government foundation to a political life usually remembered through much larger state and national controversies.
🏉 Vic Hey
Vic Hey attended Granville Central Junior Technical School, where his rugby league talent became apparent, and played junior football at Guildford. He also trained as an electrician, a trade he retained through much of a long sporting career. Selection for Australia, successful years in British clubs and a later national coaching appointment followed. Granville’s connection is a documented school, not an assumed place of residence. The local years show sport and technical education developing together before the player known as the “Human Bullet” carried his experience into much larger competitions.
🪨 Tom Vallance
Tom Vallance was born at Guildford in 1928 and became a geologist with a second passion for the history of his science. University research examined altered volcanic rocks, while an extensive card index gathered information on Australian geologists and miners. He pressed for scientists to receive fuller attention in the Australian Dictionary of Biography and contributed entries himself. A demanding teacher and field companion, he also helped prepare major geological maps. Guildford is his birthplace, distinct from the Western Australian town of the same name. His career linked close examination of rocks with equally careful attention to the people who studied them.
